Your instructor picks you up at home in Den Helder or nearby. You practise steering, braking, the clutch and accelerating. Afterwards you hear roughly how many lessons you need. There is no obligation.

No. You can take a trial lesson and driving lessons before you have your theory. You do need to pass the theory exam before the practical exam.

Yes, that's the standard. After every 5 lessons you get an invoice for those 5 lessons, for example € 275 with the Premium package. You pay with iDEAL or Klarna, without interest, and if you need fewer lessons you pay less.

No, the packages exclude the practical exam. The exam costs about € 350. With the re-test guarantee, a re-test is free.

A single lesson costs € 59. In a package you pay less per lesson: € 57 with Basic (15 lessons), € 56 with Advanced, € 55 with Premium, € 54.50 with Assured and € 54 with Confidence (50 lessons). That saves you up to € 250 compared with single lessons.

Rijschool Benz charges € 59 for a 60-minute driving lesson. That is the lowest hourly rate in Den Helder: other driving schools in Den Helder charge € 60 to € 71 per hour, € 65 on average (prices October 2026). In a package you pay € 54 to € 57 per lesson at Benz.

Yes. Your instructor explains everything in English, Dutch or Arabic. The CBR exam is in Dutch; you can request an interpreter from the CBR.

Yes. At Rijschool Benz you can choose lessons in a manual car or in an automatic. All packages and the intensive course are available in both, for the same price: € 59 per 60-minute lesson.

With a manual licence you may drive both. If you take your test in an automatic, your licence gets code 78 and you may only drive automatics. Learning in an automatic is often quicker, because you don't need the clutch or gears. Not sure? Try both in your trial lesson.

With an intensive course you are often ready for your exam within 30 days. We schedule the exam date in consultation with the CBR.

You drive 3 to 4 hours a day, spread over 1 to 4 weeks. That way you learn a lot in a short time.

An intensive course costs € 200 on top of your package price. In return you get priority in planning and a quick exam date.

It's sensible to have your theory when you start. It is required for the practical exam.

The practical exam takes about 55 minutes. The examiner checks how you handle the car, observe, give way, merge, overtake and take roundabouts. You also do special manoeuvres, such as reverse parking or a hill start.

At CBR Examencentrum Den Helder, Nijverheidsweg 8C, 1785 AA Den Helder. In your last lessons we practise the roads around the test centre.

Yes. In Mijn CBR you give us permission with your DigiD to book your exam. It takes a few minutes and we'll help you.

If you fail your practical exam, we arrange and pay for your re-test (worth € 350). Conditions: you completed your package, followed our lesson advice and take at least 10 extra lessons. The guarantee is valid for 1 year after sign-up.

You can request an exam for nervous candidates from the CBR. You get more time and explanation. We'll prepare you for it calmly.

You take the theory exam at the CBR, for this region usually in Alkmaar. It covers hazard perception, knowledge and insight. You can retake it as often as needed and it's valid for about 1.5 years. Check cbr.nl for the current fee.

Valid ID: a passport, Dutch identity card or driving licence. You drive the exam in the Rijschool Benz lesson car.

The TTT is a mock exam at the CBR, halfway through your lessons. If you pass, you don't have to do the special manoeuvres in your practical exam. The TTT is optional.
